Founded in the 1930’s by Winston Nanan’s father, Simon Oudit Nanan, Nanan’s Eco Tours is the oldest tour operator business in Trinidad and Tobago. Winston got started, working with his father when he just 11 years old. Self thought, Winston got himself books, binoculars and
cameras, and between the ages of 12 and 16 immersed himself in a fascinating subject, recording everything he saw on paper and on
film. When he was just 16 he had an article illustrated by his own photographs published in National Geographic. He didn’t stop there; he
went on to publish in the Smithsonian Institute and, later, in the Encyclopedia of North American Birds.
Winston had a unique concern for the protection of the environment and wildlife Nanan’s Eco Tours had been the first to take the step into eco-
tourism in Trinidad and Tobago. Nanan is a world renowned ornithologist and wildlife photographer, a pioneer of ecotourism in Trinidad, and one of
the world’s leading authorities on wetland habitats. The tours he leads to see the Scarlet Ibis are among T&T’s oldest and best-loved eco-
attractions. Nanan’s Eco Tours not only provided tours, they also participate in the scientific, documentation of birds and other wildlife species
in the swamp, receiving funding from the ford and wildlife foundations. Nanan spent many years documenting individual bird species, their life
cycles and behavior.
Nanan Eco Tours has led many Expeditions with various groups of people with varying groups of expertise from College Groups, members of the
National Audubon Society and conservation enthusiast. Nanan’s Eco Tours believes in providing tours that minimize impact, build
